They are currently searching for a Software Engineering Manager to join their team in Chicago. The team is at the forefront of big data and building cutting-edge tools and techniques. It has a direct impact on profitability of the firm by enabling competitive investment decisions through modern and highly scalable data acquisition and processing pipelines. The successful candidate should have relevant software engineering background; including Java, Scala, JavaScript, Python, R, or similar. Ideally you should currently manage a team of software engineers
Responsibilities:
- Manage, mentor, and develop a growing team of software engineers
- Drive large scale projects end to end; effectively manage resources, stakeholders, deadlines Evolve and streamline the data acquisition and processing competency for the firm
- Key involvement in defining and determining architectural direction of the platform
- Conduct code reviews, pair program, and maintain active involvement in the continued development of your teams technical skills
Skills:
- Relevant software engineering background; including Java, Scala, JavaScript, Python, R, or similar
- Currently managing a team of software engineers
- Understanding of big data processing, systems architecture, and software engineering data processing sets such as Kafka, Spark, Flink or Storm
- Various datastore experience including relational, document, columnar and object stores
- Ability to effectively communicate and gain buy-in across various stakeholders and personalities
- Demonstrated excellence delivering large-scale, multi-faceted projects in a demanding and fast paced environment
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
Nice to Have:
- Web data extraction
- Vertica, Greenplum, Redshift or BigQuery experience
- Large scale text analytics processing
- AWS experience including EMR
