Our client is a successful proprietary trading firm with offices in North America, Asia & Europe. They are currently looking for a talented and self-motivated technical operations specialist to join a growing technology team in London.
The European team is expanding its infrastructure significantly over the next 6-12 months, as well as looking to move into new office space. The successful candidate will be expected to play an important role supporting this growth, and will bring a passion for all things systems-related, from hardware and networking through to software build, deployment, automation and tooling.
The position is part of a globally distributed team responsible for supporting their low-latency electronic trading systems, and will include interactions with all functional areas within the firm. Their culture emphasises teamwork, and focuses on continuous integration and test-driven development.
Required Skills
- Experience of network and colocation design and commissioning within a low-latency environment
- Expert understanding of network routing and transport protocols, and knowledge of current generation switch/router/server architecture and performance
- Familiarity with CWDM/DWDM and dark fibre systems
- Able to assist or lead the specification and procurement of new infrastructure, including vendor management and service contract negotiation
- Experience configuring and optimizing high-availability trading infrastructure, working closely with other functional areas
- Ability to prioritise and troubleshoot complex network and systems issues, ranging from low-level hardware to application level, including packet analysis
- Experience with python or similar scripting language, including development of tooling and automation
- Effective communicator with a proactive attitude
- Able to build strong relationships within a distributed team
- Can demonstrate a high level of initiative and a track record of delivering projects
Desirable Skills
- BA degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science or similar technical field
- Experience of project management, especially involving managing external suppliers and vendors
